This past year, Li'l Woody's has supported a variety of organizations by working directly together choosing ingredients & naming the burger, with proceeds benefiting their community including: Mary's Place, YouthCare & more.

Gates Foundation Discovery Center

The Gates Foundation Discovery Center is a public space that educates, inspires, and motivates local and global awareness and action. Exhibits and programs at the Gates Foundation Discovery Center are free and are designed to bring people, organizations, and educators together around global and local issues, ideas and personal stories to highlight opportunities to take action.

2019 Program Highlights:

  • Teen Action Fair – thousands of Seattle teens come together and present their inspiring work around taking action on important issues locally and globally such as clean water, refugees, ending gun violence, and LGTBQ+ rights.
  • Giving Marketplace – holiday shopping event featuring vendors whose products give back to communities organizations locally and globally.
  • A Celebration of Indigenous Film and Artists – A kick-off to the Seattle International Film Festival’s Indigenous film showcase.
  • Africa Day – a celebration of the diverse continent and the work and stories of the Gates Foundation and its partners in Africa.
  • International Women's Day - inspiring stories from the frontlines of women's rights work.
  • Human Rights Day - celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Gates Discovery Center also hosted several educator programs including: Global Classroom: Increasing Gender Equality through Design and a  “We the Future” teacher workshop on facilitating courageous conversations about race and equity in the classroom.

Seattle Children's Research Institute

Seattle Children's new facility, Building Cure, includes a Science Discovery Lab where students from the community can participate in authentic scientific research, as well as the Cure Factory – a state-of-the-art facility that allows scientists to translate laboratory discoveries into cell therapies for patients using immunotherapy and gene therapy. Building Cure enhances and beautifies the vibrant streetscape of South Lake Union through its transformation of Terry Avenue into a pedestrian-friendly green street.

Emerald City Music

Emerald City Music is fiercely committed to bringing live classical music experiences from their stages into the communities they serve. From school touring programs to free community performances, there's no limit to where you might encounter chamber music in the Pacific Northwest.

415 Westlake

415 Westlake hosts a women’s shelter every Monday offering dinner, a warm bed and breakfast for 12 women each week. Their kitchen is used to provide monthly meals for care takers for Lake Union Village, Street Youth Ministries, Lowell Elementary, Compass House & Immanuel Community Services. 415 provides a school homework club for Compass House on Dexter and regularly host seminars for community members and the SLU Community Council each month.

This year they have offered venue rental discounts for Seattle based non-profits equally $53,000 & through the café we have given $12,600 neighborhood discounts to customers.

The Collective

With all that is happening in the world this year, the team at The Collective Seattle hopes the core message you hear from us is simple: Collective Seattle is a place to be yourself, celebrate your passions and find connection to do good things in the world, whether personal, professional, global or local. This year the community has had the opportunity to work with an incredible variety of individuals and organizations  in events like their Winter Warmth Coat Lunch with A Seattle Church and the Northwest Immigrants' Rights Project.

Downtown Dog Lounge

Downtown Dog Lounge hosts two large annual events in the South Lake Union neighborhood; Barktoberfest and Dogfest.

2019 NEW TO SLU BUSINESS OF THE YEAR FINALISTS

Recognizing an outstanding business that is new to the South Lake Union neighborhood (within the calendar year) which demonstrates a commitment to community support and growth.

Jack's BBQ

Jack's supports multiple charities including a nonprofit Jack, himself, started called Yucatan Education Project. They've raised funds for American Cancer Society and St. Jude's Children's Hospital and provided free catering for Woodland Park Zoo, Habitat for Humanity, Northwest Harvest & more!

Just Food For Dogs

Just Food for Dogs hosts adoption events monthly for foster based rescues who don’t always have a chance to showcase pets in need of furever homes. They have also participated in SLU community events such as the Cider Summit and Tour De Pier and they've partnered with WeWork and Amazon for other events.

Sitka Apartments

Sitka has brought a bioswale project and courtyard open to the public to SLU. They've sponsored two free community events, the SLU Block Party and KEXP’s Concerts At The Mural. They also participated in the Socktober donation drive to benefit Mary’s Place which resulted in over 500 pairs of new socks & undergarments.

Amazon supported SLU-based organizations like Immanuel Community Services, Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center, PATH, Mary’s Place and FareStart. More broadly, Amazon supports many nonprofits in the Seattle and Puget Sound Region that focus on computer science and STEM education, homelessness and hunger, and disaster relief.
