Name: History Café: Preserving Neighborhood Stories through Oral History
    Date: January 17, 2018
    Time: 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM PST
    Event Description:
Throughout most of the twentieth century, the Central District was the only Seattle neighborhood in which African Americans were allowed to own or rent property. Residents responded to housing discrimination, inadequate infrastructure, job discrimination, and underfunded schools, with innovation, creativity, community leadership, and solidarity. Today, the Central District is undergoing rapid transformation. Hear the stories of those who call the Central District home and how two oral history projects are not only helping to preserve this legacy but how these stories may influence the way in which we imagine our city’s future.
