Which board members lead these committees?

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE


Purpose: Provide the leadership and resources necessary to accomplish the Chamber’s mission.

Goals and Strategies:
  • Develop and oversee the execution of the Chamber’s strategic five year plan – this is done with input and guidance from Board Directors and the Chamber membership
  • Oversee Board Development:  new members, retention and committee structures
  • Hold Directors accountable for fulfilling their duties and responsibilities
  • Implement an annual self-analysis of Board effectiveness
  • Oversee the performance of the Executive Director; manage the annual review process and provide ongoing feedback throughout the year
  • Look for opportunities and events that can be branded as Chamber organized or sponsored in order to give the Chamber a leadership role

    FINANCE SUB-COMMITTEE

    Purpose: Provide oversight and monitoring of the Chamber’s financial health and fiscal policies

    Goals and Strategies:
  • Create an annual budget for the Chamber
  • Monthly review and presentation to the Board of the budget, P&L and projected expenditures
  • Develop and sustain expense management structure/process for each individual committee


PUBLIC AFFAIRS COMMITTEE


Purpose: To represent and be a proactive voice for the members and the overall business community with all levels of government in order to improve and sustain a positive business climate.

Goals and Strategies:
  • Provide strong business advocacy on legislation and regulatory issues affecting South Lake Union
  • Communicate legislative and public policy information via the Chamber website to keep members informed and stimulate business involvement in applicable issues
  • Maintain communication with elected officials at all levels of government to build productive relationships and sustain advocacy role for business
  • Implement and coordinate “Candidate Forums” throughout the year, as applicable
  • Provide members with contact information for their elected representatives and key government officials via the Chamber website


PROGRAMS COMMITTEE


Purpose: To initiate, promote, and sustain Chamber events and meetings that will support, educate and            promote the Chamber’s mission, its existing members and the community at large.

Goals and Strategies:
  • Conduct and coordinate monthly general meetings
  • Coordinate special meetings and events as needed by individual committees
  • Develop and maintain yearly calendar of events accessible to all through the Chamber website


MARKETING COMMITTEE


Purpose: To develop and implement appropriate marketing and image-building materials which promote the SLU area as a destination for economic investment, retail, residential growth, cultural experiences and livability.  The Marketing Committee focuses its efforts on two distinct constituencies: 1)  the SLU Chamber Membership and 2) the SLU Neighborhood.

Goals and Strategies:
  • To develop and maintain a positive, unique and effective brand value for the Chamber
  • Develop and recommend all policies pertaining to the marketing of the Chamber including development of a comprehensive marketing strategy for the recruitment of new members, formulation of a marketing schedule, and development of all marketing materials 
  • Oversee the implementation of approved marketing projects and use of Chamber logo and image

    SLU CHAMBER MEMBERSHIP

Purpose: Increase the Chamber’s membership base and participation by providing a customer-oriented structure with valuable member benefits and quality service.

    Goals and Strategies:
  • Implement aggressive outreach to expand membership base, increase retention, enhance visibility and expand public awareness of The Chamber
  • Sustain membership recruitment year-round
  • Generate and maintain “hit list” of prospective members
  • Establish and utilize a member-feedback system to monitor needs, results and interests of members
  • Hold scheduled networking and membership activities that provide a quality, enjoyable environment for fellowship and membership communications

    SLU NEIGHBORHOOD (AKA BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT)

Purpose: To initiate, promote, and sustain area business development opportunities that will contribute to an expanded economy, job development, enhanced support for existing firms, and a positive environment for prosperous business investment.

    Goals and Strategies:
  • Collaborate with member resources, professional firms and educational institutes to execute ongoing Business and Education Seminars that focus on issues affecting all aspects of business operations and sustaining success
  • Support efforts to implement business recruitment plan to expand the area’s commercial and retail presence
  • Expand The Chamber’s web site as a viable source of reliable economic, community and demographic information
  • Maintain efficient “one stop” business resource center for small business services and information through SLUCC website
  • Create an online relocation package for businesses and individuals interested in moving into the neighborhood
