Mercer Corridor Project - Phase 1 Groundbreaking (8 Sep 2010)

Please join the Seattle Department of Transportation and guests as they break ground on the first phase of the Mercer Corridor Project. In attendance will be honored speakers US Senator Patty Murray, Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, and local business owners.

DATE: Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

TIME: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

LOCATION: Mercer Street and Westlake Ave N – site of the future widened Mercer Street

For more than 40 years the Mercer Corridor has been one the city’s most significant transportation challenges. Today, due to the support of Seattle businesses, residents, and state and local elected officials, SDOT is fixing the Mercer Mess. Thanks to a $30 million Transportation Investments Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grant, more than $30 million in private contributions, and a host of other local and federal funding sources, Phase 1 construction has begun. The project is expected to create more than 1,200 construction jobs during its three year construction duration.

When complete, the Mercer Corridor Project will keep people, goods and services moving in Seattle and throughout our region; create safe pedestrian and bike connections; improve freight and transit connections; and reconnect Seattle neighborhoods.

Wine Tasting and Cascade People's Center Fundraiser Aboard the Virginia V (9 Sep 2010)

Come help support the South Lake Union Neighborhood in an after work mixer benefitting the Cascade People's Center.

The wine tasting will be held dockside aboard the Virginia V on Thursday, September 9th from 5:30-7:30pm and will feature wine tastings from two local wineries. Tickets are $30 and proceeds will benefit the Cascade People's Center.

The Cascade People's Center (CPC) is a non-profit organization located in the center of the South Lake Union Neighborhood. The Center's mission is "Empowering people to grow strong, sustainable families and communities." The CPC has been assisting members of the South Lake Union community for 12 years and is run by about 70% voulnteer; the Center is currently assisting 6,000 individuals. With the Cascade neighborhood drastically changing as a result of the South Lake Union development, the Center is a place of consistency and familiarity for thousands of low income and transitioning families who are being pushed out of their neighborhood.
